I hope anyone in Edmonton can help me with this. I don´t know anybody personally.

We are planning to move to Edmonton in August. From those who have experience, how easy/difficult to find accommodation for a new immigrant over in Edmonton? Most people will not have credit history and such. I don´t know US credit history will help. I am looking for accommodation and saw a lot of apartments online but don´t know whether they are available for new immigrants. Right now I´m looking for something for couple of months depending on lease and then move to another once i get to know the places. I hope somebody in Edmonton can give me a idea.

You should be able to get an appartment....no worries.
A lot of immigrants arrive to Edmonton every year. The terms in your lease will all depend on the landlord. Average is around 3 months lease but I think that you can negociate this if necessary.

Cheers

US credit history in Canada is almost useless.

BUT, don´t worry; usually the landlords take 6 months rent in advance as a back up for your no credit history.

I´m not sure about 2/3 months, most apartments go for 6/12 months.

If you look for shorter terms then better to look for the pvt. ones, like sharing with other family. In that case it is best to look inside own communmity.

6 months rent in advance????? So if the apartment is $1,000 per month, you have to pay $6,000 upfront as advance. WOW!, never heard of such a thing....must be some good weed you are smoking there in Edmonton.

I think the general rule is first and last months rent plus a damage deposit.
