Subject: Skilled worker immig. in-process....advice pls..
  Hi there peeps,

Me and my husbands immigrant application to Canada under skilled worker is currently in-process. We submitted last Aug. 2007, received a letter of receipt after a month that says our waiting time is 20~24 months. We applied it here in Taiwan. Now it has been 10months past and I feel like the processing time is too long.

I asked some immigration agencies and told me maybe I could consider to find an employer in Canada to fast track my application. Is this possible? I have tried to send job applications to alot of companies, but so far no positive response....

Any advice?

If you could find an employer it is good, but even Canadians are finding difficult to find jobs without networking. So wait for your skilled worker immgration process to continue. and in the mean time find to get more info about Canada by looking at www.immigratedoctorcanada.com.

Yes, what your immigration consultant is telling you is true... finding a job (employer) will expedite your application and you will be able to get to Canada faster than waiting in line for your SW PR...

Problem is finding that job! and from far away... it´s not impossible as there are many who are able to do it... but I don´t think it´s an easy thing to do...

Some people travel to Canada using visit visas and use their time to apply for jobs... they distribute their CV´s, go for interview and see if they get any job offers... if you are in Canada finding a job will still be difficult but at least you are there ... As far as I understand, many employers are reluctant to hire a person who is not at least a PR... and do not want to hassle with the paperwork required to sponsor a foreigner...but who knows, you might get lucky...

Keep in mind that with the new SW regulations your application may be able to qualify to move to the front of the line and your waiting time might be less... I am not sure if your application will be considered under the new regulations though...

Good luck to you... and by the way... 20 to 24 months is not that long compared to other people... in my case... they told me not to expect to hear from them for 24 to 36 months! I´ve been waiting 3 years... so be patient...

Thank you Dr. Gobi and Lily!

Since we applied our papers Aug. last year, I believe that´s still under the old regulations.

I am also considering of going to visit Canada for the meantime to see the situation and check which place we would settle in, as I´ve been there a couple of years back but I am not sure if they would give a new visitor visa because we have filed our immigrant visa already....

Or better yet we just be patient and wait and pray that our papers will get process sooner...

you would need to show some very strong ties to home that would assure CIC that you have full intentions of leaving at the end of your visa term.

20-24 mths is not a long waiting period. People apply in Beijing and HK are waiting longer.
