Subject: U Haul and customs questions
Does anyone have experience moving with a UHaul? I´m wondering what the procedure is when we get to the border (we have already landed, so will be checking in with customs).

Specifically I´m wondering how organized our stuff has to be in the truck (we´re moving the entire house, so will have a lot of general stuff). Pretty well everything we are taking we declared on our goods to follow list when we landed. Do the customs agents typically tear apart the truck, or just have a general look? I´m trying to come up with a packing plan to make the process as simple as can be.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

This is something that I am interested in knowing as well as I plan to land from the USA with a moving van. I have heard various stories with some stating that customs agents just glance at the goods to follow list and glance into the truck. Others have stated that customs agents search everything, and someone even stated that customs do not allow U Haul to cross the border. It would be nice to receive an official answer.

Depending on the agent.

Sometimes they will tear everything apart to verify it and sometimes they will do a random check on the goods.

My wife landed in late March at Sarnia border with a U-haul trailer w/ 2 lists (goods coming in and goods to follow) and the custom agents didn´t even open the trailer!
We didn´t have a clue of what value of the goods we should state on the forms (we finished the lists in the lobby at customs lol).
So overall it was a simple procedure and very pleaseant personnel.

Thanks for the responses. We will be crossing at a small border and I imagine the process will be straightforward enough. I guess I´ll be as organized as possible without freaking out too much about it.

Thanks again!
