Subject: Semester OFF
I would really appreciate if anybody response to my inquiry.,

I am an international student in Canada. I am taking this summer and also planning to take the fall semester off as I do not have sufficient fund register for next fall semester. I determined to do the winter semester as a full time student. At this stage I can not even leave Canada as I do not have valid TRV (expired) and going home for one semester and comming back will cost me a fortune in air fare. ( I could easily attend the fall semest as a part time student with price of air ticket).

MY question is can an international student take a 8 months of in a year and be full time student only for four months without violating the student status in Canada.

Sharon do you think I should leave Canada for one semest and apply for TRV visa back home and join the next semester ( winter) in Canada

You need to first apply for leave of absence from the university. Once your leave of absence has been approved (no guarantee), you need not go back to home country as you are in status. You will not be eligible to work (on/off-campus) as you are not a full-time student anymore. If you do go back to your country and your study permit/TRV expires you´ll have to apply at the nearest consulate serving your region.
