Subject: spousal sponsorship, please HELP!!
I´m sponsoring my husband to Canada from the UK. They have been processing his file for over 7 months now. It is taking a long time due to the fact my husband has a criminal record. He has one conviction and two cautions, with the last record on his record being February 2003. Does anyone have any information how the high commission treats applicants who have criminal records? Are they always rejected?

Also, while this process is going on, can my husband come visit me in Canada? I am aware he may need to get a tourist visa due to his criminal record, does anyone have any information on this?

I believe he is required to supply a certificate of rehabilitation. If the crime he committed is also a crime in Canada, they can get pretty difficult.

I highly doubt that they would allow him in to the country until all this is cleared up The risk of him simply staying illegally is far too high for them to take a chance. You could try... but I would not get my hopes up.
