Subject: How to legally get married to a non-Canadian
Hello, I´m a Canadian Citizen. I met my boyfriend working outside of the country. He is from the Caribbean. We´ve been dating for almost two years and have been visiting each other. Neither of us require a visa to do so. We plan to eventually get married. If we were to get married outside of Canada is it legal for both of us to come back to Canada and then apply for his permanent residency? We intend to live in Canada and we acknowledge the fact that it may be a while before he is allowed to work in Canada. We do prefer to marry outside of Canada. Do you foresee any problems? Do you have any suggestions to make this situation flow more smoothly. We have surplus proof of our relationship including plan tickets, photos etc... We just want to do this legally and avoid any problems.

Thanks for your help.

the chances of him getting into the country once you are married are very small. CIC has a bad habit of assuming that spouses will not leave the country once they have arrived.

Spend some time before getting married preparing your application so it is ready to go immediately. Marry outside Canada. YOU return to Canada and file and out of Canada sponsorship application. do this regardless if your man gets into Canada or not - it is faster and there is an option for an appeal should things go sideways

yes, it means you will be apart but the time will pass quickly, the process is faster with less risk and he can begin working the day he arrives after approval.

Any marriage that is according to the laws of that country will be approved by CIC as long as she or he is not 12 years old.

We recently had a man from India marry a women from Pakistan in Hong Kong due to their two countries laws and behavior over these types of marriages. They met in the US at University fell in love and when she immigrated to Canada they missed each other sooooo much. He wrote me and I suggested Hong Kong.

We submitted their application 35 days to approve her through Mississauga CPC and 35 days through New Delhi for him.

Don´t expect the same time line through Port of Spain but if he is from a non visitor visa country you can have him sit here while the process is going through but do not have him arrive after the file has been sitting in Mississauga for thirty days. He could arrive a day or two after it arrives in Mississauaga CPC.

Just a thought.

PROVE YOUR RELATIONSHIP REALLY WELL.

there are some surprising processing times around. My buddy from Turkey met a Korean girl here in Canada on a student visa. Half his age and endless reasons why CIC would look at the relationship sideways.

Obviously, he has some serious good luck. Married in March, Applied May 1. She is landing next week.
