| Subject: Proof of intention to return to Canada |

I´m a Canadian citizen living in Japan hoping to sponsor my Japanese wife for PR in the future. I´ll apply from outside of Canada. One of the requirements is proof that I will return to Canada with my spouse. I have no intention of going back to school or finding a job before returning to Canada (hope to be retired by then). Besides renting an apartment or purchasing a house, are there any other ways to prove my intention of returning to Canada with my wife? If I have to rent an apartment or purchase a house just before we submit the PR application then we´ll be paying for one household in Canada and another in Japan for about one year which is expensive and an unfair expense.
Any advice is surely appreciated! Thank you in advance.

Common Sense has to prevail due to your age and personal circumstances.
Get mail from real estate brokers a great way is to sign a contract for thirty days with them to find you a residence and show the e-mails to the Visa Post. Get letters from friends and family snail mail seems more convincing with a stamp on the envelope then e-mail which can be bogus.

By the way, I´m not that old. I´m only 39 but I do hope to retire in about 2 or 3 years which is the same time I hope to move back to Canada with my Japanese wife and son.
Letters from real estate brokers or better yet a contract with real estate agents to find me a residence within 30 days just before I´m to apply for my wife´s PR is acceptable as proof on intention to return to Canada? Can that really be enough proof for CIC? Does the contract with real estate agents have to be 30 days? Could the time period be 3 months or 6 months?
I don´t quite understand how letters from family and friends will help. Could you elaborate on that please. For example, do you mean a friend or family member in Canada assures CIC via letter I´m a man of my word and that I will return to Canada with my wife once PR is granted?

If you have snail mail that shows you have had conversations with others CC or PR´s that your intention is to return CIC can accept that with other stuff to show an intent but always tell the truth.

Thank you Roy once again. You´re very helpful.
Unfortunately, I do all of my correspondence via email. In fact, I probably haven´t penned a letter in over a decade.
I guess I still have the option of my intention to return to Canada by getting something in writing from real estate agents indicating that I´m actively looking to buy a house.
How about a personal written submission to CIC explaining the reasons why I´m now returning to Canada? The truth is I´m just tired of living in Japan and I don´t want my son to go through the education system in Japan.

So write from your heart about the educational system. You can show e-mails but the CIC staff love the letter with the envelope stamp proving when it was mailed.
e-mails are not the best because they are left open to too much interpretation but the more reasons and logical stuff they show the better.
