Subject: marriage after COPR and PR Visa
  Hi,
I have received my COPR and PR visa recently. If I get married now then what I have to do? Do I have to inform the CHC visa office immediately? If I inform them about my marriage then what will happen? My PR visa will expire on next January 5, 2009. Can anybody suggest me that what would be the best for me? Should I land first and then come back to marry or I can marry right now?
Thanks
Nolim

Remember whether you marry before landing in Canada or after you land in Canada and go back and marry. The important matter is you have to land in Canada and officially apply for your PR card. You could always sponsor your spouse if you are a valid PR card holder.

Thanks for your reply.

So if I marry now, afterward land in canada and get a PR card .I will be able to sponsor my wife.Is that right? It is not necessary that I have to land in first then I can marry. Am I correct?

STOP STOP STOP. Nolim, you are NOT CORRECT.

DO NOT MARRY IN BETWEEN YOUR PR VISA BEING ISSUED AND LANDING.

at this point, LAND, then marry, then sponsor. Do not do it in any other order unless you are prepared to return your visa for an update prior to landing. I would not advise it.

If you marry now and land without adding your wife... it is called misrepresentation and CIC will either revoke your PR or block you from ever sponsoring your spouse.

This is serious stuff. Please respond so I know you are very clear about what you can and cannot do.

Actually if you marry now and land then CIC will bar you from sponsoring your spouse in future. Also, CIC may decide to come after you and revoke your PR. So, as adviced by Sharon land first and then get married.

Outland means, your wife remains in her home country while you sponsor her. much faster and there is an option to appeal the ruling if something goes wrong.

However, you will need to be in Canada to sponsor her which means you will be separated for a time.
