Subject: Important things to know - Initial Assessment (IA)

Hi to all.

I have several clarifications about Initial Assessment (IA). There are still some blurred details about IA. Sharon, Roy and other knowledgeable people on this subject matter are welcome to reply.

1. Is initial Assessment (IA) a postal letter that CIC will send to me just like the AOR?

2. CIC will send first AOR then IA in the form of postal letter?

3. What are the information inside the IA letter? Will the contents of the IA letter from CIC directly inform me if I have passed the Canadian Immigration Point System based on the assessment of the visa officer?

Hi, There are no such letter topic used by CHC IA letter. It´s just say that they are processing you application now and they need more information ( depends on case). And they will let you know whether they need an interview or not. Also you will get the medical form ( may be later..all depends).

AOR comes first. With updated letter ( or after updated letter) they send MED form.

You won´t get AOR if you don´t meet the pass points.

You always get AOR and at least one more correspondence from the high commission.

AOR informs you that your file has been received and put into a queue. After AOR you can receive additional information request. Medical forms are issued once you have met the points criteria during the initial assessment i.e. points criteria. This comes in the form of a letter.

Hi Samm. Thanks for these information.

a few more clarifications (for samm, sharon, roy, and other knowledge able on the topic):

1. if CIC sends me the medical forms, it is an absolute clear indication that i passed the points criteria based on the visa officer´s assessment?

2. are these medical forms usually goes together with the initial assessment (ia) letter? meaning, are they sent inside the same physical postal envelope?

1. It means if the information supplied by you is authentic and no mistake has been made on their part then you will not have any problems as far as points are concerned.
2. Usually, yes.

AOR is Acknowledgment of Receipt, which means that your file has been assigned a number and is in the queue to be processed. So, if you meet the conditions of applying to a particular consulate and your file is complete, you will be receive the AOR. You do not have to meet the pass marks for AOR.

AOR and change of address (in reply to: Important things to know - Initial Assessment (IA))
I´ve applied under SW category on March 12, 2009. I tracked it and came to know that they received it on March 18, 2009. How will I get my AOR, through e-mail or postal? From my understanding, I´m supposed to get it through e-mail if one provides e-mail id. Also, what happens if I need to change my address before I get the AOR? In UAE since mails are sent to post boxes, I´ve given my present office address as my mailing address. So what happens if I change jobs before I get my AOR? Please advise me.

Thanks
