Subject: Carrying passports of family members, from India
My family is in India now, on summer vacation. I am in working in Kuwait and waiting for PPR. If I get the PPR, I need to send passports to London Office. Sending passports from India by courier is prohibited by Indian laws and regulations. Now there are two ways, either all of them break their vacation and come to Kuwait so that passports can be sent from Kuwait to London Office. Or I have to go to India and bring their passports alone, leaving them in India for their summer vacation. I want to choose the second option, i.e. to go and bring their passports. Do you know there is any problem at the immigration checks either at Indian or at Kuwait for carrying 4 passports of family members. Any information in this regard is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Take a letter of authorization to carry the passports from your wife. I think parents are allowed to carry the passports of their children. To avoid any inconvenience keep the passports in luggage or cabin luggage but make sure not to carry them in hand.

Also, I know if you try to mail passport from India the customs sometimes seize it (if they open the package). I do not know if there is law for this. Embassy of India only states, "the passport SHOULD NOT be sent outside of the country of residence", which makes me think, its an advice not law.

DC,

From Canada, US and many other countries you can send passports through Fedex. See the link below. I sent my friend´s passport via Fedex and another one´s via Xpresspost. Only few countries have restrictions on sending passports out of their borders due to security issues.
