Subject: URGENT!!!X-ray test for pregnant HELP!!
hi, my wife is applying for a Permanent Residence, she lives in China and she is pregnant now, the fetus is about 4 months old, as eveone know the x-ray is harmful for the fetus, but the x-ray test is mandatory last step before she will granted for the visa, we have already passed the interview. Now, the consulate in HongKong mailed the x-ray test form, said we can either do it after the baby is delivered or when is the clinic is appropriate to do so. EDC August 31.2008, i don´t know what is EDC mean, is it meant expected date of childbirth or what, but my wife´s expect date of birth should be at Dec 31.2008, some of the people said, the counsulate will ask to undergo the x-ray test when the fetus is 5months old. My concern now is i dont know if my wife should do the x-ray now or later, if she is done the x-ray on her August 31, the fetus is about 5 months old, will she still able to have time to get the baby to born in Canada, because in Hongkong it takes about 2-5 months to get the visa. if at that time, my wife wouldn´t be allowed for the airplane, and i don´twant to risk my baby´s safety to do the x-ray test. Are there any other people have the same situation as me, and how you guys suggest me should do?

I´m not sure what EDC means either, but I wouldn´t recommend getting an XRay while pregnant. There are conflicting views on the subject, but my opinion is to play it safe.

Some doctors won´t allow a woman to be XRayed during pregnancy; I had to sign a waiver stating that I was not pregnant when I had my XRays done.

The safest bet for your baby is to wait until after your wife gives birth to complete her medical. At that time, you can declare your new addition to your family and include your baby´s medical as well. It will delay your application, but only by a short time.

Congratulations to you and your wife!

Regarding Preganancy and X-ray (in reply to: URGENT!!!X-ray test for pregnant HELP!!)
Hi Shurong!I also passed through the same procedure. You shouldn´t go for X-Ray as its harmful for foetus. Wait for the child birth. After that pay the fee for your child to add him/her into your immigration case, along with two photos of infant with eyes open.Embassy will send you infant´s medical forms.Your wife and infant has to pass medical together.Wife will pass only X-Ray. Within 1-2 months after medical you will have your visa letter to submit your passports. So stay cool, and better visit web sites to know where you will move after getting visa. Best of luck. JSS

We also applyed for immigration visa, and now my wife is pregnant. Is it possible to give birth there with tourist visa and then stay. Will this act make our immigration visa faster? Thank u

It is possible . the baby will then be a Canadian citizen.
It won´t make your application happen any faster and you will not be covered for any medical costs incurred. Most travel insurance won´t cover you for pregnancy related costs either. It could turn out to be very expensive and not much use.

NO you do NOT get citizenship just for having a baby. You will still have to apply for PR and get citizenship after that.
The BABY will be a citizen , but this will have NO EFFECT on your application, unless you wait until the child is 18 and can sponsor you

Even i had checked with one of my friend this case.

He has intiated Work permit for canada & suddenly during medicals for his wife declared to be pregnant. now the visa has sent back passport, asking for X ray reports
will doctors has to take stand on this... after all what does xray decide at this time.. it should be waived off for them..

i suggest kids are more than work permits for anyone :)

please advise..
