Dear
Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan, Iran and almost all the major Islamic countries (best to my knowledge) need visa before. Procedure is simple, if you have an invitation from Canadian embassy, that is enough prove and Hong Kong will issue you your visa. I have no idea which city you belongs to just simple check the China embassy or consulate general new your place and get the correct visa requirement from their office.

You don´t need vist to get in Hong Kong if you just pass by

what is means by "just pass by" ? if some body going hongkong definitly he will stay there atleast 2-3 days for some work. is this also be means by what u told?
