Subject: Need Visa for Babysitter
Dear contributors to the forum, do you have any idea if I could bring my mother or mother-in-law to Canada to babysit our daughter? As you know, the cost of daycare is high in Canada, and the relative who was providing the daycare is moving to another country. Both my mother and mother-in-law are wiling to come temporarily to take over the babysiting duties without pay, the problem is that they need visa to visit Canada. Should they apply for a visitor visa? Should they mention that they are coming to support us in babysiting? What´s the likelihood they get the visa?

Thanks for your help!

they need to come with a visitors visa. it is a tough problem because CIC cannot be sure they will leave at the end of their 6 months. Would they want to stay or do they truly only want to come for a visit? they can get an extension for the visitors visa but it is still the same problem. People do it, so it must be possible.

Just apply for a visitor visa and don´t tell the embassy they are here for baby sitting...just mention that they are going to be here for visiting canada and being with you.

Thanks for your advise!

Sharon, they sure will return to take care of their families in their home country. They have no incentive to stick around in Canada due to their family ties and the inclement cold winter (actually I´m more worried they get sick in winter). I appreciate their willingness to sacrifice 6 months away from their home country to help us with our daughter (also their grandaughter). What we have in mind is having my mother visit 6 months only and when she leaves bringing mother-in-law for the next 6 months. We might not even need a full year before we can afford to pay child care in Canada.

you will have to include a letter of invitation with their visitors visa application. I would suggest you state it just the way you did to us on the forum. I think everything will be fine.

I did the same with my 2 kids and still doing. We applied for multiple visitor visa for 3 years for my parents, then after coming here we extended the visa. They have been extending the visa for 2 years now. i.e. extended 3 times. But they are planning to go back now as its been 2 years already.
