Hiring Lawyers/Consultants - Lawyer David Cohen (in reply to: Hiring Lawyers/Consultants - Lawyer David Cohen)
Hi all,
Whislt I know that you don´t need to hire consultants/lawyers, can anyone tell me if they have used David Cohen´s firm? I ask because they have approached me saying that they can find me a job if I pay them some money, and whilst it sounds very tempting as I want to get to Canada asap, I don´t want to be wasting the money on a bogus firm.
My current situation - applied for PR Jan 2007 from the UK, still have about 2 1/2 years to go before they look at my application, and that I guess depends on what happens with the new legislation. I am keen to get out there as soon as I can, but I want to do it in a fair and legal way!
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated, many thanks in advance, KAREN

Hi Karen,

Cant comment specifically on David Cohen as I don’t know them. I would caution you against paying someone to find you a job. I am personally wary of companies that ask for money from candidates (especially upfront).

Also, depending on what your skills are or the type of job you are looking for, you may want to attend Opportunities Canada show (http://www.expo-canada.com/). I haven’t been to one, so I cant say if its any good.

Other than that, if you think you can spend couple of weeks in Canada, you may want to send out resumes and see if you can line up interviews while you are there. Again, depending on your skills. It hasn’t really worked for me, but I hear certain professions (brick layers, plumbers, truck drivers) are in great demand and get job offers by the dozen.

I would want to clearly understand the terms of the offer. His name crops up fairly regularly but paying someone to find you a job gets very iffy. Not sure how they intend to do that in a legitimate wa.
