Subject: Spouse Sponsorship Help!
  Hi,

So I´m not sure which option I need to go about doing this.. but here´s my story.
My husband and I got married on April 24th this year. We got engaged February of last year while he had his own buisness here in Canada. He is a US citizen...
Since our engagement his buisness fell through and closed down April of last year. He continued to return home every 6 months and never had any problems returning to Canada saying he was coming on buisness. The last time he left/came back was November of last year.

Now that we´re married is he going to have to leave and file for sponsorship outside Canada in the US... or can I just file for him IN Canada now? The Immigration officers never gave him a time to leave specifically but I believe the longest you can stay in Canada as a visitor is 6 months.... now he´s past the 6 months what should we do?

Thanks!

file an out of Canada application and allow him to visit from time to time. Much faster and there is an option for appeal. Make sure he uses a US address.

Inland is taking forever.

alright, my wife and i have been married for a year now. and we first filed papers nine moths ago,now they have al ready asked and receiced legal general checkup reports and police records and everything that they ask once you have been aprove.(they got it all) they are proccessing everything in latin america now. and they have already send her a letter saying that it would take up to four moths, that letter got send to her on may 13th 2008. my question is..why does it take too long? im a canadian citizen and she has praticly married a canadian, why do other people have the right to have their wifes here in less time when they are only canadian residents? what gives them more of a right to have them here faster?

it comes down to which embassy is involved, what their workload is like, and how complicated your application is.

Yes, it would be really nice if CIC would give applicants an ETA but I am not sure they can be accurate enough to not cause more problems for themselves by commiting to a timeline.

ok i understand that. but at least i dont think they should keep us in suspence.they should at least tell us something,(monthy) i go to the website and i enter her file number to check the status on the application and its been nine moths and they cant even upgrade the site. i find it very poor attention to us who deserve to know more as good working canadians that we are.

yes, the system stinks but it is the only system we have. Skilled workers wait for years for any sort of news.

Send a letter to the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration and tell her what you think. May not change anything but at least you will feel better at the end.

won´t speed it up but it will prevent delays. There is a difference. downside, you are out the cash and getting a refund could take longer than you like.
