I just checked the status of my sponsorship application online. And it said under Permanent Residence for my husband that they started processing his application on July 31st,2008. What does that mean. And how long do you think it will take until the decision is made?

it means someone actually has opened the file to look what is in it. How long is dependent on complexity of the case, time of year (CIC holidays and work load) and which embassy you are dealing with. Check CIC family class processing times and you will be able to find a time range for your embassy. Remember that is not from the date you applied, it is from the date everything went to your husbands embassy.

yes but it is a historical reference not a guarantee of future wait times. it all depends on the stuff I already mentioned and the volume of applications that have arrived at the embassy (which they cannot control)
