Subject: For Bill, Please!
  Hi Bill,

I have been reading this forum for a long time now - my situation is that I am waiting for my FSW visa to be processed. I know it will be processed quicker if I can get to Canada on a work visa, and I know that the further west or north you go, the more likelihood there is of getting a job.
What I would like to know from you if possible is the status of the current job market where you are (Kelowna, right? Or Ft McMurray?).
I have a background in IT support and Photography, and would just like a heads up on places to contact that are likely to want to go through the red tape process that comes with obtaining a work visa!
Many thanks,
Karen

Well, I have my house in Kelowna but technically I reside in Fort McMurray Alberta (just in case the tax man is reading this post ;)

One option that helps to speed up the process from a work visa to a PR status is the provincial nominee program.

I am not familiar how much demand there is your field of expertise in Fort McMurray, but is worth it to look in the career opportunities in the plant site´s websites.
You may Google:

Syncrude, Suncor, CNRL Horizon, Albian Sands, Jackpine, Petrocanada Fort Hills, Mackay Industrical park, Kodiak Energy.

All these companies are located in Fort McMurray and due to the labour shortage some of there departments are used to deal with LMO´s and all that stuff.

Just for the record, the purpuse of this is for information only, I am not recommending anything or saying that this is the Promised Land, it has there ups and downs like everywhere else.

Hope it helps.
Cheers

Bill

i reside in Calgary, and people always say that lots of crime here as well, but its not as bad as they say actually. Just wondering if its relates to fort mac?

Same way. A lot of misconception of this place throughout the country.

Crime rate isn´t too bad, drugs and stuff well..... I can´t see this place being any worse than Edmonton or Calgary downtown. The thing is though that for the sizes of this place, everything sounds and looks worse of what it is.

I live in a fairly family oriented neighborhood that is nice and I don´t get to see a whole lot of weird stuff around here, however I think that if you look for trouble you are going to find it regardless where you go.

Other than that, many people like this place, many people hate it, hard to tell. It has been good to me and my family though.

It is more like a "work town" that is growing really fast and the infrastructure can´t keep up with the growth which creates some other colateral problems.

Fort McMurray is a good place to live if you can find a place to live.

Cheers

Bill
