Subject: WP to PR
  Hi,

Need some advice. I am currently working on a WP for more than a year in Canada. I would like to apply for a PR.

1. Am I elgible to apply in Buffalo? My citizenship is India.
2. Do they fasttrack applications for people who are already working in Canada in WP?
3. Can I submit applications and later send my Police clearence certificates as they take time?
4. My wife does not have a birth certificate. Is that mandatory? I have one and I am the principal applicant.

5. Do I need to take IELTS since I am already working in canada for a year?
6. What is the time it is taking now a days in Buffalo consulate.

Please advice as it will help me in my application preperation.

Harry,

I can try to answer some of your questions.

What Sharon meant by your lucky day is, there is a new category being introduced now for PR "Canadian Experience Class". People who are already working in Canada for more than 12 months qualify for this. You may qualify for this.

Please check out the link Sharon posted few days ago - http://gazetteducanada.gc.ca/partI/2008/20080809/html/regle1-e.html

You need to take IELTS, does not matter how long you worked in Canada/ US. If one claims that they have good english skills then taking IELTS should not be a problem.

In general it is better to have birth certificate. If your wife does not have one, you can have your wife´s parents prepare a sworn affidavit saying that her birth was not registered at the time of birth and also get a certificate from local municipal office that there is no records of birth in the register. In most cases this may suppliment the birth certificate. Nonetheless, have her parents register the birth now and get a new BC, it will take about 3 months.

The approximate tmelines for Buffalo are posted in CIC website.

Hope this helps.

Nathan Thanks for the help. But I do not think I am eligible for canadian experience class as it required 2 yrs working exp in canada. Also it does not seem like something which is approved and started. I guess I have to go the Federal Skilled worker PR route.
