Hi everyone, i just found this forum and thought maybe someone can give me some advice about my situation. i am married to a man that i sponsored to become permanent resident, as a matter fact he just got his PR few weeks ago! i never saw this coming but he completly changed after he got his papers and wants a divorce now. i thought he loved me and really we had a nice time together since we met 1.5 year ago but i am now sure that he played me and used me just to get his papers. i am not a revengefull type of person but what he did is wrong and now i am stuck because i signed to sponsor him for the coming 3 years. i dont wanna be responsible for him anymore, can i cancel my sponsorship and if so will he be stripped of his PR? if someone here has ecsperience in this kind of situation plz tell me whats the best solution. as i said i am not revengful but i dont care if gets stripped of his PR as i dont wanna be responsible for him anymore. thanks for any help.

hi karen,
im sorry about what happend to you. i dont live in canada, i live in usa and as an immigrant here. i see alot of that. as a mattter fact i have a friend who is colombian. she got married to an american and he knew that it was only for her papers. to make a long story short. she got her green card(pr) after 3 years toghether. he became very abusive and he threaten her every time. telling her that he was going to tell immigration that they are only married just for the papers. so she whent to her lawyer to see if they get divorce now will it effect her PR.they lawyer said that she has her green card already,,, that it will not effect her with her green card, but it will affect is she ever wanted to get her citizenship.because immigration will see that they got divorced after she got her green card.. soo shes still with him because she wants to get her citizenship so that way she can petition her parents. im sorry about what happend to you unfortunatly it happens alot. i were you i would seek legal advise and not help him anymore.. good luck

sorry to hear of your situation. Here is the deal -
Decieved or not, divorced or not, you have signed a contract with the government of Canada for 3 years. There is no escape clause.
You could attempt to notify CIC of what has happened but they may or may not act on what appears to be fraud. That is the best you can do. Then, cross your fingers that this guy does not go on any form of social assistance for 3 years.

Lets say this scum bag or perfect gentleman thought about going home marrying his real love and bringing him/her back if you file a complaint his name will be flagged forever. His new partner will be refused and they may try to remove him!!!!
With a complaint you have a better chance at not covering any bills he gets but you did sign the contract as Sharon stated correctly.

You should be in touch with a support group. See http://stopmarriagefraud.ca/
there are many in your situation, read about the many victims.. immigration law should change to a conditional visa, to mirror the US law.. this was recently on the news
