Subject: PR Card
I and my family are just waiting for our visa. we plan to stay in canada for just a few months since we still have to wrap up on some work.. . Would like to know if the PR Card will be mailed to our address in canada? Do we have to personally receiv/sign documents? Would it be possible if we just let some relatives receive them for us and mail them to us in the phils.?

Also, how long can one stay outside of canada after one´s first arrival?

When you land, provide the port of entry officer with an address, the PR card will be mailed to that address. You do not have to personally receive or sign documents. Your friend or relative can mail/courier the same to you.

The PR card is good for 5 yrs, however,
to apply for your eventual citizenship,
you need to be in Canada for at least
3 years of the last five.
Should your PR Card expire after 5 years,
chances of getting renewed is questionable.
You may have to apply all over again and as such
your chance of approval will be very unlikely,

Citizenship requirements are 3 out of 4 years not 5. As long as you have met your residency requirements and not lost your PR for any other reason you will be issued a new PR card.

By the way, your PR card can be valid but you may have already lost your PR status.

Go here and check for yourself. It is indeed 1095 days out of 4 years.

From CIC website:

"Time lived in Canada

To become Canadian citizens, adults must have lived in Canada for at least three years (1,095 days) in the past four years before applying. Children do not need to meet this requirement.

You may be able to count time you spent in Canada before you became a permanent resident if that time falls within the four-year period."
