Subject: Common law partner - adjusting status in Alberta
  Hello,
I am a citizen of Mexico, I arrived on July 2nd. to Canada, to visit my common law partner who just got a work permit as a Civil Engineer to live in Alberta.

After I arrived, me and my Kids decided that we want to stay in Canada with my common law partner and we took the MEDICAL EXAMINATION and it was sent it to Immigration services by the medical doctor on July 28.

Last week we went to the US and Canada border to make the "U" turn for me to get the "Open Work Permit" and my kids to get their "student visa". The Immigration officer told us in the border that he could not give us such as visas because they did not receive the Medical examination yet. He also told me that he could send us back to Mexico the same day because I had the intention to work without a valid "work visa" (which is not true because I am not working...)

He also said that the medical exam may take 3 months and he gave me until October 21 to stay in Canada (the first time I arrived, on july 2nd, the immigration officer gave me 6 months, until January 2009 to stay in Canada).

We are affraid that the medical exam will not be ready by October 21 and we Must return to Mexico... How long is it taking the Medical Examination??

Are there any chance that I can make a "U" turn again in the US-Canada border and the Immigration officer give us more time to stay and wait in Canada while they receive the Medical Exam??

Can I enroll my kids (8 and 10) years old to the school while we are waiting for the students visa and my open work permit??

Thank you!!!
