Subject: Applying from outside
Hi folks...got what I assume is probably simple question as I try and straighten out in my head all this fun paperwork!!

Once I sponsor my wife who is living in the US while I am in Canada right now, how does it work exactly for her to come and visit while the whole process is taking place?

I assume she needs to keep her residence in the US where she lives otherwise she wouldn´t really be ´outside´? So she couldn´t sell her place and move all her belongings here is what I´m getting at. The more I think about this...I´m pretty sure I know the answer...but...

How long can she come and visit for exactly?

Thanks for any help in advance!

I asked the same question in another forum as I didn´t get an answer here...

This is the reply I got:
Citizens of Greece are visa-exempt, meaning that your husband does not have to apply to enter Canada in advance of leaving Greece - but whether or not he is admitted to Canada once he arrives is at the discretion of the IO at the port of entry. It´s best if YOU accompany him on his entry and speak to the IO = telling them that the two of you are married (be prepared to prove it with a legal copy of your marriage licence) and that you have an application to sponsor your husband in process. As long as your husband is otherwise eligible to enter Canada, and the two of you can demonstrate that you understand that he can only remain permanently if his PR application is approved (or he will have to leave when his temporary status expires), the IO should admit him, giving him a document called a Visitor Record that tells him how long he can stay. If the PR visa is not approved by the expiration of the VR, simply file an extension application before expiration of his temporary status so he stays "legal" in Canada until PR is approved.

Thanks for the information...I guess I just want to make sure that we don´t do anything that would mess up the process, but of course we want to be together if possible without having to fly back and forth (costly) until the process is done with.
