Is there a special reason?
In many other forums, threads are sorted according to the last posted message in the thread, not according to the date of the first post in the thread. Consequently, as long as people keep posting to a thread, that thread will stay on top. That looks more efficient to me since a thread with current posts would logically mean it´s relevant (unless you get a lot of scam posts).

this is old forum technology and the webmaster is not particularly enthisiastic about changing it. What he has offered us is the "last 30" which grabs any threads with recent activity and brings them to the top.
from what I understand, that is as good as it´s going to get.

Yes, this forum´s format is creaky and old, using antique technology. But for some reason, like an old book, people keep coming back. Maybe slickness doesn´t always correspond to inviting.
