Inform the authorities?

Subject: Inform the authorities?
I am a US citizen and I recently traveled to Canada to visit my wife and got a bit hassled at Toronto Pearson. I am a performer and brought a few costumes with me. The border patrol then took me in a room alone and made me perform for them because they thought I brought the costumes to sell in Canada. I didn´t feel this was right and actually felt quite embarrassed. Is this something I should inform someone about or should I expect this when coming to Canada?

why would you bring costumes into Canada?

It is illegal to work and illegal to sell. I guess you could file a complaint to Canada immigration but do you really want to do this if you have a immigration file you want processed at a later date???

next time, leave the costumes at home.

I brought my costumes to show my wife. I didn´t work or sell them.

If you don´t have any proofs such as witness or video tape, your calim will not be strong. Forget about it and move on your life.

unfortunately, innocent intentions are trumped by others before you that have not been so well intended.

seriously, if you are intending on Canadian immigration, I would avoid kicking up a fuss - just in case.

Personally, I wouldn´t take issue with them because you are at their mercy and if they can deny you entry for any reason, you could be your own worst enemy. Remember the cartoon character Pogo said "We have found the enemy and he is us!"

You´re a performer, why are you embarrassed? ABM, Always Be Marketing. When I get to the border next month if they want me to perform, it´s showtime. Who knows what connections they have that might even get you a gig.

Just my thoughts from one performer to another!
