Subject: Several questions from UAE
  Hi everybody,
I´m IRAQI engineer, I want to submit to the immigration to Canada as a skilled worker, but I have several questions. First of all here below my general information about my status:
1.I have Master Degree in Civil Engineering (18 years of study).I´ll apply as main applicant.
2.My age now is 48 years.
3.I have 27 years experience in Civil engineering.
4.I have 3 children, their ages are 21, 17 and 13 years. They are all student in different stages.I´ll take them as dependents.
5.My wife is Architect, has 20 years experience.I´ll take her as my spouse.
6.I´m working now in UAE since one year, and I have legal work residence in UAE. My family resides in EGYPT now. Also we have a legal residence in EGYPT.

My questions are:
1.Where do I submit the applications for me and for all my family in UAE or EGYPT?
2.How long it will take to finalize my applications if everything will go OK?
3.Which is better or quicker office in UAE or EGYPT?
4.Am I need a representative lawyer, or not?

I´ll be grateful for every answers I´ll get from experts.

Yousif

UAE

2.How long it will take to finalize my applications if everything will go OK?

A matter of years..may be 2-3 or longer.

3.Which is better or quicker office in UAE or EGYPT?

I think UAE. Number of applicants from UAE should be much less than Egypt.

4.Am I need a representative lawyer, or not?

You have to know that the rules have been changed, effective Feb 08. Your occupation has to be listed on the "list of demand" that will go out in the fall in order to be able to apply.

Consult a laywer but you can do things by yourself..just download the applications, fill them and provide the documents.

Post your questions on other forums which are more active, such as http://www.immigration.ca/discussion2/default.asp

Consult other Iraqi frieds who went to canada from uae.

I think 48 years you are on the borderline as far as age goes, since your wife is an architect you can apply on her name for which she has to do in Egypt or she has to move to UAE inorder to apply from UAE. Nevertheless please consult a lawyer.

If you want you can contact my lawyer who is in UAE http://www.becanadian.net/contact_us.html

Thanks to Anonymous & Syed,

1.I´ll wait the issuance of the priority of the skill demand list.
2.About my age I think CIC officer would give me 10 points because I read in CIC web site that they consider age point as at the time they receive my applications.
3.I´ll try to contact a lawyer.

Am I right?

You are right, but play it safe and get legal counsel.

If you do to take legal counsel, I recommend taking it from someone who is competent. In my opinion, many immigration consultants/lawyers are not competent in the field and wont really do much for you except mail your application and charge you thousands for dollars for it.

This is especially true for those outside of Canada where CIC cannot regulate them.

Since you have to complete the application yourself (even if you do hire an immigration consultant), why not do it yourself?

Sure take advice, and there are many forums online where you can get advice.

The only time I think where legal counsel is advisable is when your case is complicated. In which case, again hire someone who is competent.

Thank you Ray for your valuable advices.
I´m waiting for the new skilled workers priority list, and certainly I´ll complete my application myself with some support from my friends in such forum.
