Subject: Inland sponsor - waiting period
  Hi,
I posted a topic earlier and I´m please with the replies and suggestions.

People suggested me that I should go for inland sponsor and I´ve decided to go for it.

I wonder what is that waiting time like for inland sponsor to get PR ?

What is the processing time like for normal(outside Canada) sponsor to get spouse from South Africa ?

Many thanks.

Regards
Aravind

"I wonder what is that waiting time like for inland sponsor to get PR ?"

There are two stages for inland spousal sponsorship:
~Approval in Principle
~Decision Made on Permanent Resident Application

It is currently taking roughly 5-6 months for inland spouse or common-law partner applications to receive Approval in Principle. Once Approval in Principle is received the applicant can then apply for a general work permit and in many cases be considered eligible to apply for provincial health coverage (where it is available).

After Approval in Principle, it can take anywhere from a few months to over a year for the applicant to get a decision on their PR application and for them to become a permanent resident. It all depends on each individual case and on the immigration officer in charge of processing it.

Permanent Residence applications from South African citizens and residence are processed by the visa office in Pretoria. According to the CIC website, the current processing standards for spousal and common-law partner applicants being processd in Pretoria are as follows:

30% of cases finalized in 2 months.
50% of cases finalized in 4 months.
70% of cases finalized in 6 months.
80% of cases finalized in 8 months.

If you add roughly one month to account for the time it takes for sponsorship approval from Mississauga and for transferring the file from Mississauga to Pretoria, for normal applications you can expect a decision within 3-9 months. Possibly less.

I applied as a spousal applicant through the Buffalo office (I´m an American citizen married to a Canadian). Buffalo´s processing times on the CIC website are between 9-19 months for spousal/common-law applications. My entire process (from when I sent in my application to the Mississauga CPC to when I received my passport request from Buffalo) took less then 6 months.

Why inland sponsor (in reply to: Inland sponsor - waiting period)
Why would some one want to go for inland sponsor when normal sponsor is much faster(atlest in this case).
