Subject: conjugal partner vs spouse...PLEASE HELP!!!!
I am about to start the application process for immigration to be with my boyfriend. I am a (female) US citizen and he is a Canadian citizen. We have been together for several years and have visited each other several times but have not been able to live together to qualify for the common-law partners.
My question is this..We are looking at the conjugal partner visa. Is this a smart route for us to take - as we have lots of evidence of our relationship, the visits, etc over the past several years? Or is this a relatively hard one to get approved?
Would a spousal sponsorship be the better option? We do intend to get married at some point down the road, and would be willing to do this earlier, if needed. We just don´t want a "quick/recent marriage"(ie. courthouse, w/ no family present) to look suspicious in the application. (Will it?)
And also, if we did go with the conjugal partner application, would we be able to get married while on that status? (PR card is 3 yrs, correct? Can we marry in that 3 yrs?)

Any advise would be great!! I want to do this the right way, with the best option of getting approved.

Thanks to all who reply!

Please look up the word CONJUGAL in a dictionary and then read the manuals.

Why on earth would a Canadian not be able to marry an American.

I see no reason why a Canadian couldn´t marry an American. I am hoping to one day! :) My point was, if we were approved under conjugal status, could we then marry? And i´m aware of what the word means...i was just asking for some input as far as if this is a smart route to take when applying for a visa? Or if it would be in our best interest to just get married first?

don´t waste your money and time on a conjugal application. either do the 1 year common law or get married. period.

Conjugal is for people who are not able to live together or marry due to political or religous persecution. I can´t imagine either of these apply to you. As such, there is no hardship that is preventing you from marrying your boyfriend. Note: not wanting to quit your job is not reason enough to file for conjugal.

You have every right to file a conjugal application, it is just highly unlikely you will be successful and therefore will have spent time and money only to end up back where you are. If you want to be with your boyfriend in Canada, you need to show commitment in the form of Common-Law or getting married. Other way to get into the country is through the Skilled worker if you are not prepared to get married.

Read the sponsor and sponsored guides today, get married tomorrow, and apply for immigration the day after tomorrow.

Good luck!

what is my chance to be approved (in reply to: conjugal partner vs spouse...PLEASE HELP!!!!)
My partner was approved to sponsor me in going to canada. The papers are now in the Philippines for further investigation on my side this time.

We already sent all the documents needed. I already had my medical exam, passed the criminal records from NBI.

What is my chance to be approved?

Can you give me points?

Thank you
