Subject: IELTS DILEMMA.......ADVICE WANTED
Its me again. Trying to figure out if I really need to take the IELTS. Do you think I would have to? Ur advice and comments would be highly appreciated.

The story so far:

AOR is July 2006 and recently I recd my 90 day update letter.

With my original application I had sent proof of language by way of letters (from a Speech and Drama Teacher of Trinity college, London who was also my play director), newspaper clippings of the english plays I had done, certificates to show the English shows I had done on radio and educational certificates to show English as the medium of instruction.

I am an Indian so therefore the dilemma.

Please do let me know asap.

Thanks in advance for all ur help and advice. I appreciate it.

Samina,

While you may not be asked to submit IELTS, my suggestion would be that you take it. If they do ask, you would delay your application processing because you would then have to wait to take the exam. If they don’t ask and you have taken it, no harm done.

Question how risk averse are you? If potential delay is not a problem, you can wait and see what happens. Otherwise, take the exam.

IELTS General is not that difficult, but I would recommend you still prepare for it. Where I have seen people fail to get needed band is not the lack of language understanding, but rather their over confidence and therefore not preparing for it.

Ray

P.S. Where in UK are you? I am in the Midlands here.

Hi Ray,

Thanks for ur advice.

Coincidentally that was exactly what I was thinking about and therefore am giving the test but wanted to get some expert opinion on it.

One more thing Ray, should I send the results as soon as I get them or should I wait to see if CIC wants them?? Thanks for ur advice again.

And I am not in the UK. I live in the UAE.....in Dubai.

regards.

Thats really up to you. If you get a band you want, I would send it right away. Again the question is of delay. If they dont have everything in front of them when they review your file, they will send you a request and put your file to the side. They may or may not work on it the moment they get your response. So that may cause some delay as well.

So if you get the band you want, send it right away. This way they will have everything in front of them to process your file.

Ray
