Applying for a study permit; what are my chances?

Subject: Applying for a study permit; what are my chances?
Hello, I´ve been recently accepted at a college in Vancouver and I´m just waiting for my Acceptance Letter to arrive before I can apply for a study permit.

I´m a resident of Islamabad, Pakistan and haven´t traveled anywhere abroad. My family is situated in Pakistan, except my sister who moved to Vancouver last year as a citizen after her marriage to a Canadian National.

Does anyone know what are the key points I need to keep in mind when I apply for the study permit? I had no idea you had to convince the Visa Officer about your intentions of leaving Canada once your education is complete.

I´m an above average student with an IELTS score of 8.0

Can anyone also give me a ball mark figure on the kind of money my statement should show for them to consider it adequate? Also, do you think saying that during my period of stay in Canada, that I would be living with my sister could hurt me in the process or help me?

if you are comming to canada to study for years, remember that it´s a tough game. you will need a lot of money (atleast $12000 per year assuming that you will be staying with your sister and will have no room or board expense).

I´m also from pakistan as a student and have applied for my PR. I would not recommend anyone comming here just because they have relatives here. you need to make sure that you have enough funds and thats all.

I´m not saying I don´t have a place to say. I can show as much funds as the Embassy deems appropriate. I was just under the impression that having family abroad actually helped you in the process but the more I´m looking into all this I´m beginning to realize it is rather a bad thing.

it is what it is. You won´t know the outcome until you try.
