Subject: What exactly is "full time equivalent"?
  Good evening.

I am currently a Graduate Student at University of Alberta and I am planning to apply for Permanent Residency as soon as I can.

One thing I am not certain about is my work experience. I never held a real job, but I was a Teaching Assistant and Research Assistant for 14 months already. Checking the NOC website, I found Teaching assistants (4122 Post-Secondary Teaching and Research Assistants). I THINK it is class A (judging from their matrix), but I am not exactly sure - please tell me if I am wrong.

Next September I will have been a TA/RA for 24 months (and will have adaptability points for being in Canada for 2 years).

Now, I need at least 12 months of "full time equivalent" to apply. Teaching Assistant at colledge is part time. So, how many months of being a Teaching Assistant in colledge do I need to have 12 months of full time exuivalent? Is there anywhere a formula I can use for calculations? I could not find any.

Thank You for help.

Full-time definition is 37.5 hrs/week. Part-time equivalent will mean 37.5*52 hours per year. If you work more than 37.5 hours per week it is still counted as 37.5 hrs.

Teaching and Research assistant experience is counted for the purpose of immigration. However, it has to be properly documented. You need to get a nicely written letter mentioning your duties, number of hours worked per week and salary paid from your research/teaching supervisor.

You may want to wait for the CIC occupation list to see whether RA/TA make it to the list.
