Subject: Format of receipt for leaving detention
I have just been faxed what is supposed to be a receipt for payment to leave Immigration Canada detention in Montreal. However, it looks very phony to me. For example, there is no logo of any kind on it, no addresses or telephone numbers, and no names except of the person who supposedly left immigration! It is only about 7 inches (18 cm.) wide and 4 inches (10 cm.) high. Most of the area is some kind of coloured paper with several horizontal and vertical lines. Also, in the upper left, there is some kind of sticker with a white background. It has the client´s name as well as their FOSS ID, COB, DOB, Reports and Starts lines. Also, it has hand-written the amount paid.

Below that, on the coloured part, are several dates, mostly one per line, with initials after them. Also, on the last couple of lines are several signatures that are completely illegible.

I would appreciate anybody´s opinions, one way or the other, regarding the validity of this receipt. Thank you, in advance, for your help.

The Bond form is 8 1/2 by 11 and will list what the cash bond was and all the requirements.

The Bond Receipt number will also be 8 1/2 by eleven and have the persons name who posted the Bond.

So how did you pay?

Do you have the Detention Centre number for the Enforcement Detention Officer EDO?

Different Centres can have different receipts but the forms are the same. Where is the former detainee?

Thank you so much, Roy, for your prompt reply. I don´t think that it was supposed to be a bond payment. Instead, there were 2 payments in total. First, there was one to take care of some bad credit with Telus. Then, a few days later, the receipt for that was supposed to be given when the payment for cost of the person´s detention (i.e., food, health care, etc.), with the receipt that I mentioned supposedly given after that second payment. In both cases, the payment was with cash.

The form that I received a copy of does not have any person´s names on it at all. The detention center number, I believe, is supposed to be the first 4 digits of the FOSS ID value so, if so, then I do have that. As I said, it has very little details on it otherwise (e.g., no logos, names (even Immigration Canada anywhere), addresses, telephone numbers, etc.) which is why I don´t think it is actually anything from Immigration Canada.

The former detainee is supposed to still be in Montreal but will be coming to Vancouver later this week.
