Subject: Hello Roy | PP from India
  Hi Roy,

I got married on August 7, 2008 to a Canadian citizen of East Indian origin. We got married according to Hindu traditions in India, where we had family and friends from both sides participate in the week-long ceremonies.

On October 1, 2008 my husband applied for my Spouse Immigration once he went back to Canada. He was processed to be my Sponsor in a month?s time and received a letter on November 7, 2008 from CIC, Mississauga that now my papers have been sent to the Canadian High Commission, in New Delhi for processing. I am an Indian citizen.

Would you know and guide us as to how much time on an average would it take for me to get a permanent residence in Canada under the family class? I need to plan for my movement to Canada as I am working and also need to give my firm ample notice period. Based on what you suggest, I will be able to take some decisions.
We keep checking the CIC website for status on my application/ process, but we do not see any status.

I now live with my in laws in New Delhi and my husband lives in his own house in Toronto.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Best regards.

PP

That all depends on how well your spousal application was put together. See it depends on rather or not your going to get an interview. say another three months

We were hoping to hear from the Canadian High Commission in New Delhi, India before Christmas. Is that too ambitious?

Yes, Christmas is only one month away and the embassy has had your papers for 3 weeks. There are some folks that get in and get out in under 3 months total, but that is very rare. Once getting your papers in New Delhi, only 30% of the cases are completed in 2 months, 80% of them could take up to 6 months and another 20% even longer so I think Christmas is overly optimistic.

Carrie, thanks!

I will pretend to be patient! :-)

Can you suggest if I can visit my husband who lives in Toronto on a travel/ tourist visa? I have never visited Canada before.

We were advised that I do not travel to Canada on a temp/ travel visa as this could appear as a conflict of interest as we have also applied for my permanent residence (spouse).

Please suggest.

Best.

Why don´t you focus on what you should be focusing on like improving your spousal application you have already submitted so the chance of a delay caused by an interview is decreased.

Many of my clients have been approved without an interview in under two months.

Try to hang in there it should not be too long.

Roy,

I did not quite understand when you say- "Why don?t you focus on what you should be focusing on like improving your spousal application".

Could you rephrase or explain that to me please?

Regards.

Being apart from a love one is very stressful. What I was suggesting was try to improve your current application by proving your still communicating with each other. Length of phone call frequency etc.

Get his friends to write letters in support of your relationship and have them include their status documents.

Do not try to get a CVV because you will have to tell the truth that you want to go over to Canada and live permanently with your partner. A CVV is for a temporary period of time and you do not need to come across as someone who deserves special treatment far and above of others in the same line.
