Subject: ohip question for student due to pregnancy

hi, i need an advice

i am in Ontario, on a student visa.
i got pregnant, my partner is a canadian resident and has OHIP (medical insurance)
i dont have it as i am only a student and having a baby delievered would cost ALOT.

i was told if we got married, i would be able to get on his medical card and be covered.

I have no idea if its true or how its done, anyone has same experience or knows what we need to do exactly?? we have only 6 months left before delievery.

Thank you

may be you can NOW subscribe to an insurance so that it will be effective to cover your delivery six months from now. Wait for other suggestions.

You only become eligible for OHIP after receiving your PR. Therefore, yes if you marry him, apply for PR, you would be able to get OHIP, however I don´t think there is enough time as inland applications take 9 to 12 months to finalize.

Did you not have medical insurance when you came for school? Where are you from? Is it an option to go home to have the baby?

yes i have a travel insurance but it doesnt cover pregnancy.
i came from russia, and i do not want to give birth in that country as i care for my own and babys health.

i know by getting married and getting pr is how i get my own OHIP,

but the thing is i was told i can get on my husbands OHIP somehow.
i know i have no time to get my own OHIP, so was curious if i really could share his OHIP with him.

You were told something incorrect. Each person has their own OHIP account which is to be used by them and them only.

If you aren´t able to get approved prior to the baby arriving ~ and to be honest coming from Russia chances are next to nil with a quickie marriage ~ and going home is not an option, then you are going to need to pay the bill for having the child.
