Subject: Work as a bricklayer
Hi, my name is Mirko. I´m a 30-year old bricklayer situated in Kristianstad, Sweden. Me and my family consiting of me, my wife and our daughter would really like to move to Canada and start a new life. Is the bricklayer occupation a "Designated Occupation" or do I have to be specialized within the profession?

Best regards and with hope for a reply

/Mirko with family

you likely have 3 options - provincial nominee program, come on a work permit and then apply from within the country or under the newly refinded Federal Skilled Worker.

I would suggest plan for the spring as a Bricklayer on a Work Permit with the kids on student permits. It will be alot easier to get a work permit when the snow melts.

or come to BC´s lower mainland (Vancouver area) where there is no snow! BC has bricklayers as part of their PNP list.

LOL Sharon he is from Sweden he is not afraid of snow.

Is this another west is better then east thing LOL.

BC is much further away from Sweden for him and his family to fly home for weddings etc.

Either way Mirko whether your from Malmo or Stockholm go on line and apply via the Federal government job bank for any company that is ANY province that list your occupation as an occupation under pressure HRSDC.

Wish you and your family all the success possible even if you choose British Colombia which is actually beautiful.

no,not an east west thing. more a snow - no snow thing but bricklayers can work outside 350 days a year in Vancouver. The 15 days missing are not necessarily snow but they are too cold for mortar.

by the time our friend gets all his documents and approval finished, snow season should be gone.

Sharon they put up protection and use heaters do you never watch Holmes on Homes HGTV??????

I was concerned about the kids education LOL

Ontario takes four weeks for a LMO and BC takes HOW LONG?????

Can bricks be laid in the rain or does rain affect Mortar?

This could go on for ever.

Do what suits you based on your OWN personal circumstances.

British Colombia (in reply to: Work as a bricklayer)
Hi Roy and thanks for the fast reply. Actually British Colombia was just what I was thinking. The great outdoors with fishing, hiking and so on. And as a bricklayer I can work in any conditions, we have 20 cm of snow right now and -8*C. So I´m no stranger to cold weather.
Now I have another question about housing. Is it hard to obtain permanent housing in BC? What about healthcare and school?
Thanks again
Mirko

our schools are very consistent across the country. Same is true for healthcare. Yes, it has challenges but all universal healthcare programs seem to struggle with the same issues.

Permanent housing- BC is expensive but so is Ontario. The economy is softening so that is taking the edge off of prices - good news for most.
