I am expecting the PR by the mid of 2009. Is this advisable to move into Canada in 2009 as the job market these days is very pathetic, Pleas advise on this.

You don´t want not to go to Canada just because the market is down..you have to try your luck..

If you get a job, the world is good..
if not, the world is bad!

Can i try looking at jobs from USA(my current location). Is Canadian employer finalise the jobs on the Phone and call you there. Are they so co-operative(I am looking to know their Trend). Your opinion will clear some picture for me.

The Canadian job market may be down, but it really depends on your field. There is quite a bit of opportunity in our area for very specific professions, as is likely the case all over the country.

I will say it is VERY difficult to land a job from the US (or out of country anywhere). As US citizens, it took us nearly 2 years after being granted Canadian PR. It is not impossible, but it does take a lot of perseverance and patience. I would be very surprised if you could simply have a job interview over the phone and easily relocate.

I certainly don´t want to discourage you, but most job markets are pretty tight right now, and we found that most employers want to hire local prospects as opposed to taking a chance on someone from away. It is a huge risk from their point of view to hire a new PR with little experience in the country.

I would encourage making sure your English is clear. Non native English speakers have a very difficult time assimilating into the Canadian workforce and culture.

Good luck to you.

Canada2009 - a english speaking Canadian cannot get a job over the phone in the way you are proposing so I don´t imagine you would have better luck. People want to see how you present yourself, how you converse about your skills etc. You may be able to get through an initial interview over the phone but expect they will want to satisfy themselves more than that. How do they know your cousin is not answering all the questions for you and you show up knowing nothing about the job?

The economy is tight and employers cannot afford trial and error hiring right now. They will go for the best candidate possible- and there is lots to choose from in many sectors.

Roosvelt- FYI, if all you can do is be cynical... don´t bother.

the same as the US. Electronic Arts is one of the best known game developers on the continent. They just laid off 30% of their workforce. Most US clients are putting projects on hold.

that´s this month-can´t say about next month, what sector of IT, what part of the country - all very important questions that you are not supplying answers to.

google IT jobs in Canada. T-net is one I like to look at for BC
