Subject: self-employed person

hi,

I am an owner of a small desktop publishing unit. At the same time there I work as an employee also. I am running my business for past two years. My question is do I qualify to get a work visa as graphic desinger for immigration. There is one category of self-employed person, but I am not very sure whether I fall into this category. If anyone comes up with some info will be great. I am from India. Thanks.

In theory as I have said before anyone can technically walk on the moon.

Where have you been since October?

Finding an employer who can not find an unemployed Graphic Designer in all of Canada so that you a foreigner can be hired by the employer hmmm what are the odds. I guess the same as that ()**&*&%$ who went all in pre flop with a 7 - 2 off suit and got one two on the flop and another 2 on the turn and his final two on the river to beat my two aces in the hole and one on the flop.

There are also new rules as of January 2009 regarding LMO´s which I posted here.

Self Employed comes under Business Class processing times from India. AVERAGE PROCESSING TIMES 67 MONTHS http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/international/03a-business-fed.asp

Check out the PNP business type processes from each province and as long as you have traveled abroad you should be able to convince that province that you have an intent to reside in that province.

Self employed for a graphics designer will mean very little if anything to CIC. Besides, the wait is endless.

Coming with a job offer may be your only chance and as Roy has tried to say (I agree, it was a little confusing)Everyone and their dog sells themselves as a graphics designer so getting a successful LMO will be next to immpossible.

Your prospects do not look good.

Hey I thought I was clear. Oh well look at it this way. You don´t have luck on your side and a Graphic Designer can mean something or it normally means little.

What you have is your own business experience that may be very helpful to another business who is doing Graphic Designing and needs someone to increase their sales.

Look for a PNP partnership like format from any Provincial Nominee Program.

self-employed person or whatever (in reply to: self-employed person)
Hi, Roy,

Let me put it straight. I have two-years of working-experience of graphic designing in a company; and at the same time I am the owner of that very company. Do I qualify? Right ?

if yes, then under what catagory do i belong to according to your so-called laws?

bs - based on what you just said - you are not part of any current high demand NOC code. So- you are out of luck.

Get someone to offer you a job with a LMO and you may have better luck. Getting that offer with a successful LMO will be a very big challenge. Again... your odds are not good because graphics designers are a dime a dozen without the hassle of paperwork and delay.

here´s the thing - not wanting to discourage you but I know endless graphics designers that are doing other work because there simply is not enough demand for their services. so, you may find work but the chances are extremely high that you will not find work in your profession.

At the same time - that affects the chances of someone taking the time and trouble to offer you a job with immigration implications. It is a pain for the employer and there is plenty of people to choose from already living inside the country.

As far as a straight immigration application - why would you want to come to a country where your chances of work in your field are limited?
