Subject: Questions about Application to Extend My Stay
I´m currently residing in Canada on a visitor´s visa, coming from the USA. I´ve been here 3 months as of Dec 20th. I´m living with my fiancee, which is my reason for wanting to immigrate; we met online and have had a long-distance relationship for several years. I´d like to extend my visit so that, eventually, my fiancee could apply to sponsor me as a common-law partner (we do want to get married, but are hoping to avoid the ´green card wedding´). However, I have a few questions about this form:

1) Under D-10, it asks how long I want to extend my stay, and for what reasons. I´ve heard that it´s best to just apply for a 6 month extension at a time, is that true? Also, what should I say are my reasons? My initial idea was just to say that I´d like to extend my visit so that I could spend more time with my other half and getting to know the community, with an eye towards becoming a PR - but I´m not sure if that´d be a bad idea.

2) D-11 asks for how much $CAD I have available. I´m assuming that they expect me to attach a bank statement that proves the funds that I have, but does anyone know what a good amount is? I only ask because I´ll probably have to pull some strings or call in a few favors depending on how much they expect you to have.

3) Also under D-11, they have a section for "I receive support from:". Now, my fiancee is currently supporting me and intends to sponsor me - can I list her income? In addition to that, I own an online business in the US that I´m still able to run remotely while staying in Canada. Should I mention this, or would this create problems due to income tax etc?

4) Finally, how much easier would life be if we were to get married sooner rather than later and apply to have her sponsor me? Again, this isn´t our first choice, but if the alternative just overly complicates things or makes it less certain, we just want to be able to be together.

Thanks in advance for the help!

I will try to answer point by point.

1. Any extension of visitor status is basically for six months maximum time allowed but it is for people who intend to remain temporarily.

2. Well you intend to lie so no amount is satisfactory.

3. They ask for how much money you have not the one your living off of.

4. Esier for her or you?

1. Well, I want to remain permanently, but I need to be able to live with my fiancee for 12 months to qualify as common-law, so how else can I stay? I don´t qualify as a skilled worker.

2. I don´t intend to lie; where did you see that? I want to be up-front and tell them that I´d like to eventually become a PR, but I wasn´t sure if that was a good idea - hence the question. Didn´t really answer my question, but thanks!

3. Okay, but what about the section "I receive support from:", and then it lists Self, Relative, Friend, General Welfare Assistance, Other. What´s that for? I would´ve thought it was for income, but perhaps I´m wrong.

4. For both of us, as we´re a couple and will be going through it together.
