My sister is a US citizen, moved to Canada as a young girl and lived there for 25 years. I was born in Canada. My sister moved to the US when she was an adult, and has lived there for the past 15 years. She now wants to move back to Canada, how can she start. She worked here and had a SIN number.

So what was her status while she lived and worked in Canada?
How was she able to get a Social Insurance Number?

She was a landed immigrant. One time when she came back for a visit when our mother was ill Canada customs kept her papers. She was in a hurry and did not care. She was 10 when she came here, finished school and worked until she moved to the US, probably when she was 30.

If she was a PR growing up, wouldn´t she have had to renew her residency every 5 years? Did she take her citizenship test when she turned legal? What sort of "papers" did customs take from her?
Something doesn´t sound right, a grown woman not knowing what sort of papers or legality she had in a country.

I was a landed immigrant from the time I was 7 yrs old. I did not take out my citizenship, because at that time, you had to surrender your American one....at least that is what I was told.
