hi,
I am canadian and I am sponsoring my common law partner... Nairobi just asked us to send the medical exam and to send the passport in two weeks.
Is is the last step? How long will we have to wait for the PR?
I am presently in Mauritius with my partner but I have to leave for Canada... Do you think it is bad for our PR process if we are separated?

First your medical should have been done for your partner prior to submitting your spousal application in the first place. Consider yourself extremely lucky Mississauga CPC never sent back the file.
Now what state your application is in, depends on more detail. This could be a second request for a medical because the original one expired.
If you have proven your relationship well you have nothing to worry about.

my common law partner was asked to send in his passport. but he was also sent a letter saying he was approved.

In fact, we got lost in the process... It was so complicated...
First, we were living lawfully in London, UK for more than a year, so we asked that the file would be process in London... We received a letter telling us that the file was process in NAirobi so I wrote to the Missisaugua and they accepted to transfer the file to London... So we received another letter telling us that the file will be process in London.
After three visits at the High Commission in London.. to ask for a visitor visa (which they told us was imposible because they was a PR in process in their office), the officer ask my partner to send his medical exam. So my partner send it to the London office.
On the fourth visit (22 September 2008), we had to leave the U.K. (29 september) we didn´t know what to do, the recepetionist did 2-3 calls to realize that our file was never in London, always in Nairobi. She did´nt understand why, 4 times, the London´s officers told us that the file was in London...
So, we had to move to Mauritius, our UK visa were expiring. Nairobi ask us to send the CSQ on the 31 july, which we did in September because we still thought the file was in London and the letter was an error...
Finally, on the 15 december 2008, we receive a letter telling us to send the CSQ, the medical exam now and the passeport in two weeks. We had already sent the CSQ (original to Nairobi) so I wrote a letter explaining that they already had it and I sent a copy that I kept.
Because the first medical exam got lost in between two high commission and the first one was expiring on the 5 January 2009, my partner went to do another one... which Nairobi received on the 2nd January 2009. So we will send the passport next week.
that´s the story... So I can´t tell you what step we are because I am confused ...
