I just wanted to ask if anyone here have had a similar experience
and wants to share it with me... OR if you wish you could speculate about what the reason for this delay could be... anything is welcome! ;O)
My medical exams expired last Dec 31st... I contacted CIC via email enquiring about the status of my application and they replied: sorry... we are still working on background checks and we don´t know how much longer it will take to get a final answer!
By the way, it´s been more than 40 months since CIC started to process our application... last piece of documentation was sent to them June 2008...
So? What do you think?

Based on similar posts I´ve seen in the past, I´d venture to say it´s probably due to a delay in getting back information CIC needs to verify your application. It could be responses from previous employers, educational institutions, etc., as they may have been contacted.
This happened to me too. I don´t think it´s anything to worry about, as it´s a fairly standard occurence in the processing procedure.
Others may want to add, who have additional knowledge or experience.

Okay... so this background check involves EVERYTHING then!!!
I just don´t understand why CIC waits until so late into the process to start checking these things!? I really don´t get it...

What type of application?
Which office?
If you have resided in Canada in the past they will need for a FOSS check and to review your old/dead file if any.
We are in the process of opening a second office and moving files but if I remember or you send me an e-mail I´ll forward you a fax number for CSIS.
It is always good to fax CSIS and ask if CIC has requested a Security Check on you and if same is completed. They will mail you the result.

Hello Roy... I am sorry... mine is a SW application and no I've never lived in Canada... but lived in the US for 13 yrs and now live in the UAE... so they will need to request information from the US, (in reply to: OMG, CIC is still working on background checks!!!)

If you think I will benefit from faxing CSIS and if you are able to give me their fax number, I´ll try it ... I suppose there is a form that I could use to request the information I need...

I am surprised that London sent you medical request before completing the background check. For certain countries, London is not sending medical forms until after completing the background checks. On trackitt, one applicant (from Philippines) got his medical request 12 months after submitting updated documents. It seems it is taking 12 to 15 months for background checks fro certain countries (dont know which ones, but I suspect underdeveloped ones).
It is stressful, but hang in tight.

Well to be fair to CIC... I should say that they requested a police report from my husband´s native coutry along with the medicals...
That is the last piece of documentation I mentioned on my first post... that was sent in Jun ´08... and the country involved is Syria...
It took us forever to get that police report... they do everything the old fashion way... and I mean the REALLY OLD fashion way... no computer systems at all, not even in government agencies... so, I will be 60 by the time I get and answer from them!!!

Well if its Syria, I am sure it will take time, which surprises me even more that they asked you to take the medical knowing that it may take them longer than 12 months to do the background check. Sometimes you wonder.
Good that you are not in a rush, but it is still damn stressful. Well, at least its stressful for me (even though I am not rushing either). Just would like to have this done and over with.

Take it easy; even if you hurry to Canada during next two years, you may end up waiting for employment. Everything is going down the tubes. You might as well stay put in UAE and amass some more dollars before arriving here to spend! LOL

Thank you for your comments! Yes, I plan to take it easy... we are doing fine where we are... I love my job here...
