SHOULD THE RECESSION AND THE NEGATIVE POSTINGS (LIKE THE POSTED BY SHARON BELOW REGARDING THE ECONOMY) DISCOURAGE US FROM MOVING TO CANADA?

my post was cautionary not negative in the same way I would tell you to ´look both ways before you cross the street´ or ´don´t think you won the lottery just because you bought a ticket.

nobody has the right to discourage you. BUT, I am strongly suggesting that you make sure you clearly know the situation you are walking in to. if you have the resources and tolerance for significant instability - by all means - come. If you can´t cope with the idea of looking for work for more than 6 weeks or don´t have much money to ride out the waiting you may have to do, or are unwilling to be flexible in what sort of work you will accept - then I would suggest the timing for immigration may not be the best.

my post is designed to protect rather than discourage.

Sharon is right on... The situation is not likely to improve this year. I keep meeting people returning from Alberta and Newfoundland after losing their jobs. If you show up here with lotsa money to ride out the recession, you are smart. Or else you may languish for a long time without good employment prospects.

smarten up guys. geesh.

Knightrider, the food industry does not pay a living wage - not even if you work 16 hours a day. living expenses would far exceed what you would earn. the idea of saving money is almost impossible.

Contrary to what Roosevelt seems to think - the food industry is the first to be hit in an economic downturn. in my area, alcohol sales are way down which makes restaurants unprofitable. staff get laid off. my little sandwich shop tells me that customers are starting to bring their lunch to work instead of buying a soup and sandwich for $9.

Yes, people still have to eat - but they tend to eat at home!

how much can you save if you worked 16 hour days at $8 - very little.

If this is the life you are considering - I would rethink it.
