Subject: Anyone familiar with eduction programs in Toronto?
Hi all, I am a newcomer to Canada. I´m looking for some community colleges for my wife who would like to improve her English and earn credits for further study in university? Can anyone tell me if there are community colleges here in Toronto Area from which student can transfer credits earned to university degree programs? I lived in the US before and its common to do that (I mean transfer credits). I tried to find such kind of information from Toronto colleges´ websites, but I couldn´t really find it. Can anyone help please?

I do know that George Brown College (downtown) offers an English program.
Also, I know that some Colleges (Sheridan College for example)give exemptions on elective courses taken at other schools.

In Canada credit transfer is not that easy like US.

You also can contact Seneca College in addition.

ESL classes are free.

If she only wants (right now) to improve her English I suggest the following.

There is all kinds of settlement organizations that get paid by the Federal Government to provide such classes. Call 1-800-O,Canada and they will be able to direct you to the Service Ontario, Government number that will then tell you the closest organization that can assist your wife.

Let her get her feet on the ground with English before paying for the same type of course at any Community College. She will meet others going through the same problems and might just make a friend.

When her English is better then she can take the next step but these organizations will be better able to assist her reaching her final goal because they will know exactely how to direct her.
