Subject: Taking car from US to Canada
  Hello Experts,

I am a PR of Canada and currently staying in USA for few months. Recently I bought a Car and now I want to take it with me to Canada. What is the best process?

Can I take the car with me to Canada? Or Is it OK for some one else to bring it to Canada after I went to Canada. Please advise.

Thanks.

Do your research at www.riv.ca, the official site for car importation. You must have owned your vehicle for at least one year prior to importing it to Canada (yes, you must prove this when you turn over your title)or you will have to pay tax on it (provincial and federal, so 13-15% or so of the blue book value). There are also regulations as to which makes and models of vehicles you are allowed to bring in. I HIGHLY recommend doing your research first. It is not a difficult process, but you must do things in the correct order and have all your paperwork prepared.

Wannabecanadian is right. And also it depends on from where to where you are planning to take it and the make of car.

For example, moving from California to Toronto a Honda car is almost useless in most cases. Honda USA warranty is not honored in Canada and shipping the car from coast to coast or driving across is expensive and risky.

You have a lot of research to do my friend.
