Subject: Time to move #2
I stopped in for a visit and can´t help myself.

Roy, that is great news that some of those folks in Windsor are being picked up by Honda. It sure did not sound that way over the weekend in the news feature I was watching. They were talking to the folks at the union hall it is was looking pretty grim.

Closures... Palliser, Gibbard, Ledco are two that immediately come to mind. It is more than just the auto sector. I am hearing 30,000 jobs - which is a lot for Canada. Think 300,000 US jobs for a proportionate comparison.

Of course people still have to eat. 10% unemployment means 90% are still working and no, the sky is not falling.

I agree, sometimes you have to take the leap and I am a much bigger risk taker than you think. But I can´t help but believe not everyone on this forum is ready to take on that kind of risk. If they are - great but I will sleep much better if they can make that decision being fully informed rather than assume Canada is immune to world economic events.

As you well know, people are not very good at doing their homework.

To the Pessimists

Look, the way I see the economic situation in Canada is through different eyes and maybe others or me need stronger glasses but lets face the economic facts.

Canada is not in such dire straights as the English Banks are, the Icelandic people nor the Americans are, etc. etc.

Richard I deal with people who came here and made refugee claims, some with skills and no skills. I do not seek out people like you who are intelligent and can fill in three simple forms themselves or search the Internet for the additional information they require.

Most of my clients all have a social insurance number that starts with a NINE!

A (9) SIN card means that the person is not legal and could be removed at any time.

When these people can make 50k, 60K and 70k with only one income in Canada I for one feel pretty dam proud of Canada. When they can create a future for their children and afford to pay foreign student fees it makes me proud to help them.

This week I will have another article in the papers again about an Un-Wed Mother from China who de-bones Chickens. Ms. Shufang HO is a single mother who drops her daughter off at daycare at six and commutes to the suburbs to de-bone chickens. She owns a house in Toronto in at pretty good area value $500,000.00 and then picks her daughter up at 6 p.m. six days a week, one day on overtime (media authorization on file)

Ming Chen father of three Canadian´s who slaughters animals for 65k but really is a furniture artisan paid 80% of the sale price of his new condo and he makes 65K (article in paper)

Then their is my failed refugee claimant from Kenyan who leases eight tractor trailers and have eight employees hauling food between Montreal and Toronto and other points who had a net income last year in excess of $600k

Or yesterday my sixty two year old lady from Guyana who had been in Canada illegally for eighteen years who started up her own house cleaning business and has considerable savings. She went to a fellow country man´s funeral and met her high school sweetheart. She gets to stay BUT the issues is she is proud of her accomplishments and so am I.

Any honest work that feeds your family and puts a roof over their heads is good. All these failed refugee claimants or illegals and many others that I see daily all want to stay in Canada because they believe in Canada´s future and their attitude makes me think the way I do.

If a new immigrant professional like yourself has to re-invent themselves, then so be it. Once in a while look at things from others perspective.

How much do you think they all paid for false documents, their H&C application fees, their 12+ years of student and work permit applications not let alone their IFH Health coverage or those who had no medical coverage.

All of these people weathered a recession and you can too. Once in a while all people have to think outside of the BOX.

Now some of you guys may now know why I think the way I do.

Nothing personal Richard, I normally like the way you think but your comment about coming to Canada to de-bone Chickens upset me too early in the morning. Others who post here saying Doctors and Engineers driving taxis really piss me off too.

Ahhhh you know I´m an optimist Richard I supported Hillary right to the end.

My (Personal) opinion is that opportunity is right in front of our faces we just have to open our eyes. We just might have to squint a little longer today but it is there.

Didn´t mean my comments to come across the wrong way, Roy. I think I was looking at immgration from the skilled requirements point of view, rather than refugee or illegal. I respect all levels of work and the efforts of immgrants to make it in their new country. I admire your effort to help every category of immigrant here, especialy the ones most in need.

My point was that these are not easy times for skilled catagory immigration, which I think this forum is intended for. With professional jobs being reduced or eliminated, skilled workers may have to settle for non-skilled work. That´s unless they have a particularly good professional background that´s in demand, and can overcome Canadians competing for the same spot. I think Wannabe´s comments and observations support this conclusion.

Although I support all immigration efforts, I didn´t think this board was a source of advice for non-legal immigration. It might well be from my point of view. But I´m not sure that´s this forum´s intention, hence my earlier response. The anti-illegal (spilling over to legal) immigrant atmosphere in the States, with talk of building walls and fences, along with mass detentions and deportations, is not something I support or like.

we have enjoyed unprecedented growth and opportunity in the last 10 years. Roy, your clients prove it. Yet, even during those times we have heard endless complaints of people not finding work as new Canadians.

The world is in trouble for at least the next 18 months to 2 years. It is hard to imagine that things could tank so fast and I really don´t believe we have seen the total fallout yet. Your trucking client... ask him how his business is THIS week. Last year does not count. This week and the weeks ahead are what we are talking about.

If things were wonderful, the goverment would not be flipping around over a 7-10% unemployment rate.

I see both sides and agree with Wantabee, Richard and Sharon it is just that I´m surrounded on a daily basis by people who actually beg me to keep them in Canada.

People who have not the best occupational skills but are successes and should be allowed to remain based solely on their love for Canada.

When you get hugged for keeping someone in Canada so tightly your ribs crack by someone who has accomplished sooooo much it is a real joy. When the real deserving ones get to stay it makes my day, month, year.

I just wish that some would focus on that they are far more then what their occupation is. I remember the beginning of the Super Bowl when that Arizona, Cardinal player won that award for donating 1.4 million of his money to help people have homes.

I agree with Roy (in reply to: Time to move #2)
*gasp* I know.

I agree with roy 100%

I finally got legal in November so I could actually work.

I have gone from 0 income to well over what I ever dreamed possible simply by putting my nose to the grindstone and working well below the rate of pay for my skill set until I proved myself and then added clients from there.
It is when you are to proud to step out of your perceived "income and status" that you run into the can not make a living problem.

An yes I am American BUT I am from the deep south where if you cant find anything but a job "de-boneing chickens" (actually spend a long time doing live hanging myself) then that is what you do to get ahead.

I would work 2 or 3 fast food jobs if need be.

I admire the 3rd world immigrants that come here and work 3 to 4 jobs and buy a house and get their children top educations. in fact I work to emulate that drive daily.
