CIC started processing my application on March 8, 2004 in Buffalo. I have not received an IA from them yet. However, through my CAIPS notes I´ve learned that I have been awarded 56 points. I´ve been given 0 points for experience. I´ll briefly summarize my xperience to date.
I completed a one year computer networking diploma (at NIIT) in my home country (India) before I started my B SC Enginerring in Canada. I´m currently in my last term and will graduate in May 2005. I,ve done part-time jobs during the academic years and worked full-time on campus in the summers. Most of my part-time job was under the NOC 2281 Computer & Network Operator (at the Computer Help Desk), the education requirement for that is the completion of a college program (which I completed in India). Equating part-time to full-time experience I worked at the help desk for over an year. My other part-time experinece was in the NOC category 5211 Library Assistant (full-time equivalent to about 5 months). I have done other jobs under 4122 Teaching Assistant (full-time equivalent to 6 months. I have a letter (which I sent to Buffalo) from my university stating I was paid $2076 in 2000, $11866 in 2001 and $5494 in 2002.
Besides my on campus experience, I have completed 4 engineering co-op work terms (1 term = 4 months), comprising full-time paid work experience on a work permit with local employers.
On My CAIPS notes there are 0 points for experience with a note that "All experience appears to be while enrolled in a bachelor´s program". It also says "File to Officer for Review" BF File to ROD on 28-01-2005.
I was reading through the immigration guide again and I believe I meet the minimum requirements even if I don´t take into account my co-op work terms. I think I deserve points in the experience category.
Can anybody advice me on what I should do. I was thinking about sending a letter to Buffalo explaining the situation.

(in reply to: Advice needed regarding work experience) Yes I did submit reference letters from all employers and employment contracts and also my CCRA notice of assessments indicating my total income for the year.

(in reply to: Advice needed regarding work experience) Did your reference indicate that how many part-time hours you work?

(in reply to: Advice needed regarding work experience) Would you mind have a check your duty which lists on your reference letter or/and contract can match on with NOC duties? If not, u know what you should do

(in reply to: Advice needed regarding work experience) Thanks for your advice Yijie ...but I´m not as stupid as you think me to be. The letters of reference mentioned same duties as the employment contract.

(in reply to: Advice needed regarding work experience) How about the hours? Did you indicate how many hours did you work?
Ok, I just tried to help you, that´s why I suppose this or that, please be aware I don´t have liability to answer them, therefore, please do not use" as stupid as you think" those words, which I didn´t suppose to think like that.

(in reply to: Advice needed regarding work experience) I don´t think part time hours/jobs can be used (the guide says "at least one year of full-time work experience"), and that experience must be in a single NOC position, that is, you can´t add 4 months of one job and 8 months of a different job to make a year (even if they´re both full time), unless you´re doing the same job for different employers. So I wouldn´t expect them to add up all those different things you did into one pot.
However, What I don´t understand here is the fact that you can´t count your co-op experience. That sounds really bizarre and kind of unfair. If within your co-op, you got paid and did what is described in the NOC for that particular job, than it´s just like a regular job (why disqualify you just because you´re doing it while taking your course?). Did you do the same kind of work in all co-op terms?

(in reply to: Advice needed regarding work experience) Yes, 3 of my co-op terms (12 months) were in the same NOC category ...the 4th one was slightly different.
I hope they consider some of my experience and give me atleast one year experience points so that I can make it through.
