Subject: Job Market for Mechanical Engineers
  Hi everybody,

I have been following the different threads in this forum for sometime, in general the discussions are helpful and informative. I thank everybody for their positive contribution.
I am an Egyptian mechanical engineer who is finalizing a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from USA. I have a total of more than 10 years of experience between Egypt and USA.
I speak English almost fluently (ILTES score 8).
I am going through the last steps of PR in Canada; however I am terrified regarding job market prospects in Canada.
I regularly follow job posts in www.workopolis.com and I have found many jobs that seem to exactly fit with my education and experience.
My questions are:
How hard will it be for someone like me to nail one of these jobs?
What is truth behind the rumors of ignoring new immigration for posted job position?
Are there serious ethnic and religious discriminations that would hamper getting hired?

I don´t think discrimination or racialism is so obvious, at least in my city. However, I do think it exists; people just cannot act so obviously. I think for baby boom generation gonna retire, see how many old guys in Canadian tire auto shop, I am not sure about other cities, my Nanaimo seems not bad, Mechanics get pretty good pay.
