Subject: do I need to quit my studies?
I am a PhD student in the USA and I just completed my first year of study out of four. I want to start the immigration procedure for Canada under the "skilled worker" category.
However, a friend of mine told me, that I have to be within 12 months of graduation when applying, otherwise my application will not be processed. I intend to switch to a Master´s program instead of finishing the doctoral program, but I don´t want to do it immediately, because I´m not sure that my immigration application will be approved.
Is there really such a rule? Can someone advise me what to do?

Thank you!

Lyla

PhD.... (in reply to: do I need to quit my studies?)
About your PhD...

Well if you are doing your PhD in USA... then the Canadian Immigration people dont care about about it... what they wanna see is that you meet the 67 points requirement...
I mean you have finished your BA or BSc or other Bachelor´s degree and then then may be a Masters as well and now going for PhD.
so I guess you should be good... make sure you over pass the 67 points in your self evaluation...
