Subject: Volunteer
Hi. I´m in Canada waiting for my PR for spousal sponsorship (in-process for 2 months now). And I´m wondering if I can volunteer at a local Salvation Army or Goodwill(without pay). So I don´t feel like I´m just waiting around. Thanks.

Of course you can. There is no limit of volunteer opportunities. You are likely to find one in your professional field if you look around, which will help you when you are able to job search. Any experience is valuable, whether paid or volunteer, and can lead you on paths you previously knew nothing about. Good for you.

Just be cautious ~ if you are volunteering and that takes a paid position away from someone else, this may be in violation of your visitor visa.

Manuals and Regulations regarding work
Definition of ?Work? [R2]
?Work? is defined in the Regulations as an activity for which wages or commission is earned, or
that competes directly with activities of Canadian citizens or permanent residents in the Canadian
labour market.
IRPR
"work" means an activity for which wages are paid or commission is earned, or that is in direct competition with the activities of Canadian citizens or permanent residents in the Canadian labour market.

You decide knowing the facts better.
