Subject: CPR-Landing info
I am planning to enter Canada using the CPR document & the visa very soon. I have few questions ?
Is going to Canada using Confirmation of Permanent Residence(CPR) document & the relevant visa same as ?Landing??

I am planning to drive my car to Canada to complete the landing. Should I have to import my car? Can I drive my car without importing it?

Once I complete the landing, can I leave the Canada (if yes, is there any restriction on how many days should I stay in Canada before leaving?) and come back later?

In my application for PR, I mentioned that my intended destination as Manitoba, but, I will be driving through Detroit/Winsor port?is this OK? Will there be any question on why I am landing at this location while my destination location is too far away?

Is there anything I have to do while leaving the Canada (should I inform CIC..?)

What to expect during landing?

I just want to complete the landing process now, and get the PR card. After that, I want to come back to home country to wrap up some more things.
Your answers are appreciated.

Yes, if you complete the landing formalities which means answering few questions and signing the document at various places.

Car Import- I think you can fill a goods to follow list at the customs.

Destination- no issue.

You do not need to inform CIC when you leave Canada.

You get your PR card after 4-6 weeks so better give a friend´s address for delivery. Some port of entry personnel may refuse to process your PR card application if they know that you are returning before the PR card can be delivered.

MM,
Samm´s correct, and just to add based on what I know and my experiences.

1) Yes, arriving with COPR and visa in passport with intention to become a PR is the same thing as "landing".

2) Canada border officials normally want you to import your car when you land, if your car is listed on your Goods list. However, if you explain that you´re still in process of moving and transfering, they´ll likely let you import it later. They´ll also probably allow your car into Canada under this scenario, but this is not guaranteed.

3) Once you land, you can leave Canada anytime without informing CIC. You can also come and go. Just remember the 3-year rule that as a PR, you can´t be outside of Canada for more than 3 years collectively out of every 5.

4) Landing is quick and painless. If you have goods to import, they´ll just officially stamp and make a copy of your Good list, and possibly verify that your goods match what´s on the list. They´ll also stamp your passport as a new PR. You do need to provide them with an address in Canada for them to send your permanent PR card, otherwise a likely delay in getting it.

Good luck!

Landing and leaving canada (in reply to: CPR-Landing info)
Hi everyone,

hope all is well. I wanted to ask some questions in terms of my landing process in Canada..Can someone help me...

(1) I am planning my landing process in canada in August 2009. I am also on H1B. Is there any conflict between these two?

(2) If i enter canada, can i leave canada one week later?
what reasons should i give the canadian officials if they ask me whether i am staying to canada or leaving temporarily?

(3)after leaving canada, should i come back and forth to canada or can i just wait for a whole year to pass and come back to Canada?

(4)For the H-1B visa, can someone tell me which documents should i bring to the US embassy for a H1B visa issuance?

i will appreciate all your help.

Thank you very much..

Ashi
