Subject: Need for Police Clearance Certificate from India
For my application for permanent residency in Canada I need a Police Clearance Certificate from all countries where I lived since I turned 18 years. I´m a Dutch citizen (from Netherlands; Europe) and have acquired this in Netherlands. However, I lived in India (Bhubaneswar-Orissa) for 2.5 years for my work. How can I obtain this PCC? All I can find is an application form for Indian nationals, but of course I have a Dutch passport. Thanks for helping!!

Lisette,

I am in the same situation. I also lived in India for my college and I needed the same. I sent email to Indian Embassy, they never replied. I asked my friends in New Delhi to find that letter for me and they visited the Regional passport office to ask whether it is possible or not. The people in Regional Passport office said they can not make it as I was not living in New Delhi now.

So as a next hope, I requested my friends to ask from police office. The police people first said it was not possible as I already left India but later they said if I pay IRS. 5000 (about 100 USD, but as bribe) they would make it.

Its really pathetic system in India about this for foreigners. I had read in US Embassy´s website somewhere (that I am trying to find again) that clearly mentions "the foreigners living in India can not make the police verification certificate after leaving the country".

I don´t know why Indians mind to provide such certificates (I believe they have computerized recording system of criminal affairs at leat in the major cities) to foreigners!

Hi there,

Thanks for the information. However, the regional office is useful for people with Indian nationality, which I don´t have. I have a friend going to MHA for me in Delhi and another friend going to a police station in Bhubaneswar. Let´s see what they suggest. Also found out about US immigration statement you refer to: http://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/re...city_3582.html

Cheers, Lisette

Consult the Indian embassy in your country. They will help. I had a friend from South Africa who got a pcc from Indian embassy in KSA. Indian Embassy asked him to submit a PCC from RSA, attested by the foreign affairs office and the details of stay in India.

If the front office(reception) turns you down, get an appointment to meet the Consulate General. From my experience, the people at higher ranks are less corrupt and are willing to help.

If that does´t work, write to CIC explaining your difficuilty. They will find a solution and advice you. They are a bit relaxed about PCC from many countries including KSA where the procedure to get PCC is complicated.

Good luck.

Thanks for that. Have called Indian embassy over here in NL, but they say they can only issue PCC for Indians. I met the Consulate Generale last year for my visa renewal and he was a kind man; may help if I politely ask him for help! Will certainly do!

If there are no provisions under which the consulate can issue a PCC for you, request them to give a letter stating so. You can forward this a letter to CIC. Logically that is a good solution.

Chill,

My question and answers do not apply to you. If you´ve always lived in India and you´re Indian it shouldn´t be too hard to get. Check out the Canadian website on immigration, you´ll find what you need to do. Good Luck!
